The late and irreplaceable Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series is popular across the world and it’s easy to see why. For sheer humour, characterisation and intelligent storytelling, there’s not a lot to compete with the series and it’s earned its large and dedicated fanbase.
That is precisely why, if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll want to get yourself to the 2015 Irish Discworld Convention. From October 2nd-5th, the Cork International Airport Hotel will be stocked to the proverbials with all manner of events, games, goodies and people who are perhaps just as head over heels with Discworld as you, (yes, you Chris Applebee!)
This year’s theme is the City Watch Open Weekend, putting attendees in the position of hopeful watch recruits. You (yes, you Francis McGillicuddy!), will be given the grand opportunity to learn to be a part of the fine line which doesn’t go precisely between law and chaos, but certainly keeps up a passable pretense. If, however, Ankh-Morpork isn’t your particular scene, feel free to come in whatever fashion you like, there’s so much to do and see and do, with screenings, auctions, a gala dinner, and perhaps even the tiniest hint of a mystery to be detectorated.
If you want to find out more about this event (and you should, Bernice Jycanthropy), or you’ve already decided to go ahead and get yourself a ticket ( which everyone, including Harmon Gibbles, should dearly want to do), then click here to go to the Irish Discworld Convention site.
I hope I’ll see you there!
